I don't think it's funny or sad...I think it's typical. Typical political hypocrisy. These guys aren't reporters...they are comedians and entertainers in the political commentary environment...but they often put a spin on legitimate news items in such a way as to constitute reporting, and I know people who cite them as a source for their political and personal beliefs and agendas.
It's like the people who first decried the Electoral College as an anachronism for it's ability to choose Trump over Clinton as president, and how it should absolutely be discontinued, because it was really designed to be a collection of snooty, high-brow people who were going to choose the President over the will of the "ignorant" masses. But now, after denigrating how the "ignorant masses" have selected Trump as President, this same crowd wants the Electoral College to exercise it's snooty, high-brow position to elect Clinton instead.
People want what they want. People believe what they want to believe. And a lot of times they don't even know why they want what they want, or believe what they want to believe.
(BTW, I just moved your question from "Consumer Electronics > Land Phones" to "Politics & Government > Civic Participation." Someone else has since moved it to the "Other - Politics & Government" category, which works just as well if not better.)

Well put Variable 46 - Wow I am not sure who the bad guys are and good guys
but there are huge amounts of people who watch John Stewart and Steven Colbert and DO think they are funny but factual too, my nephew who is very bright but blinded by college education
John Stewart and Steven Colbert are not funny to me, then again there are many so called funny people who are anything but funny Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell -- and yes I agree humor takes intelligence but it also takes discretion and John Stewart and Steven Colbert have none. And while I defend all people to enjoy what they like.
the real fact is MANY people who like John Stewart and Steven Colbert do NOT get any facts from legitimate information source BUT with NBC and others faking stories like the exploding GMC pickups and Brian Williams faking stories about being shot at, or by Dan Rather faking letter about bush ,,, how can they know what is real ?
there are many people looking to be comfortable and some need hate to feel safe, John Stewart and Steven Colbert find a customer base in these people and make no mistake comedy central and others are just "evil corporations" looking to make a profit
Funny is Bob Hope -- look him up
lunatic
You obviously do not understand what a "source" of news is or you have never seen these two comedians. Stewart and Colbert are not the source of any news. Anyone with a brain who watches them knows that. They take other sources and comment on them. Mostly, they reveal why some sources are bogus by doing the research the sources neglected to do or purposely left out.
As an example, any story stating Stewart and Colbert are the source of fake news IS fake news.
?
What you're missing is that anyone watching Stewart or Colbert KNEW they were watching fake news. The idiots who, say, swallowed that B.S. story about an alleged Clinton/ Podesta child sex ring based at a D.C. area pizza joint are the ones with their heads up their backsides.

Nobody but conservatives take Stewart or Colbert as serious sources of news. Most people understand its satirical, atleast those with a sense of humour.
