Can I put a Freemason emblem on my car if I'm not a Freemason?

Freemasonry fascinates me and I've always been interested in it. However, I'm not a Freemason and I've never been into any of their lodges. I do have first cousins who are high ranking freemasons, but I'm not too close with them. I want to put the freemasonry symbol on my car. Can I do it even though I'm not a member? Is there any consequences I can face if a Freemason member sees my car but doesn't recognize me as a member? I don't want to end up deceased in a river lol

There's no law against it, and no Freemasons are going to cause you trouble over it. However, those decals are used by Freemasons to indicate their memberships in various parts of the organization. If you place one on your car, you are telling the world (and other Freemasons in particular) that you are a Freemason, or, in the case of certain decals, that you are a member of a specific Masonic organization (Shriners, Scottish Rite, etc.). For example, Freemasons who are not members of the York Rite will not use a York Rite decal.

Also, there really is no such thing as a "high ranking Freemason." All Master Masons are equal, all Grand Lodges are independent, and the officers of any lodge are democratically voted into office for a one-year term. Anyone who joins the Scottish Rite is automatically a "32nd degree Mason" (but only in the Scottish Rite).

A neighbor--who thankfully recently moved--is a Freemason, and if one is to judge them by him.....well, he doesn't give them a very good name. He was always pointing out that he was a Freemason, too, and drove a van covered with their stickers.

I don't know that anyone would notice if you put an emblem on your car, honestly; the worst that I think might happen is maybe you would jeopardize your chances of ever actually becoming one, should the opportunity arise.

Just ask your cousins about the possibility of you joining if you're that interested in it.
Why just be a poser?
