What do laptops have that make them more expensive than others?
What makes some computers more expensive than others. For example, on the hp website there's a Hp Elitebook 820 G3 for $1,250 and then there's a Hp Pavalion power notebook for $800. The power notebook has way better specs but the elitebook cost $450 more. So what do more expensive laptops offer that cheaper ones don't?

To be honest, marketing. It is where computer manufacturing companies make their money by selling overpriced devices. I am astounded by how much some people will pay for hardware that really isn't much better or different than another company's equipment. The components inside are identical.
With laptops it's often the mechanical things that affect their longevity.
Plastic chassis vs a Magnesium one for example. I've seen some nice looking, but cheaply built laptops where the hinges have come apart after 18 months. They where just screwed into those little metal plugs pressed into the plastic of the case. Flex the hinge enough and they rip out. Laptop had a 12 month warranty, so tough luck.
A "business grade" machine has a 3 year warranty, and it's built a lot stronger. They don;t expect it to fall apart in a couple of years, because you would claim on the warranty. So they build it stronger, and that costs more money.
Screen and keyboard quality, and battery life are other things that might not be obvious on the specs either.
Everything in it is smaller and since it takes more effort to produce small versions of powerful things, it becomes more expensive. Besides that, laptops are all pre-assembled. You can't make one up yourself unlike with desktops where you can always go for the cheapest part. Laptop manufacturers control everything that goes in their products so they can price it much higher than what we want to.
