I am Christian but if I were Catholic, then I would think it important for parents to attend if that is the custom.

Without the Holy Communion they can't get married in a catholic church
they can't even baptise their children without it
they can't even eat the Holy Eucharist that is the body of Christ given out during church
that is how important it is

In Catholic religion Holy Communion is the prerequisite for all of that and they need a holy communion certificate in a catholic parish registrar in order to get married at the catholic church by the preist, baptise children and become god parents etc
Yes its stupid i know but it's tradition

think of Holy Communion like High school graduation for Catholics you can't do jack without the Diploma -_-

Not at all !

A child depends upon their parents until said child reaches the age of decision

Then when the child reaches that age its salvation is its own concern.

And that is when child is able to partake the ordinance of communion.
