My Whippet had to be stapled after normal stitches on a small lump she had removed, opened up. She stood on the table and let our then vet put the staples in without moving, and then again when he took them out which appeared to be easy. He had an apparent special tool for the job. I have to say part of the reason he's my ex-vet is because he didn't do a good job with the staples in terms of making sure the join left the skin flat. It has now knitted fine, but with a small 'bulge'. That and other things over a number of months had me moving on.
I would add that she's a sweet thing, and isn't one that reacts (no sense no feeling?!) and she will stand on the table to have a corn she has to have regularly treated, without complaining at all.

I've had staples removed, and sutures. It doesn't hurt. It just feels a little weird for a moment.

The vet will use a tool (staple remover) that will crimp the middle and pull them out. I've removed them from people, and they can definitely feel it, but it's not that bad.
