Health Insurance for franchise/small busines owner needed.?

Hello,

I am in the final stages of becoming a franchise owner. One of the disadvantages from leaving the corporate world are the benefits that are available. I will be on my own now and responsible for providing my own health insurance.

I am a 34 year old male, healthy *knock on wood*

I don't know anything about Obamacare, but is this an option? Is there insurance for small business owners, or do I just have to call each company?

Any suggestions would help and anyone around my age please let me know how much you pay and who you use.

Call a health insurance broker and they'll help you sort through your options.

You do not call any company. Companies do not have to tell the truth when they talk to you on the phone or in person, because they know that you're not recording it and they won't get caught if they lie. You allow them to communicate with you only in writing, because only written information has to be true. Well, it doesn't have to be true, but at least you can prove what they said when they deny it later.

Obamacare is a law, not a type of insurance.
All legitimate insurance sold in the USA is governed by this law.

Health insurance is inexpensive in California compared to other states. You are fortunate compared to individuals in other states = you aren't tied to a company because of the cost, although you may see a big jump if your employer was subsidizing the cost significantly.

Based on your income, you are not eligible for a tax subsidy (from previous questions).

An HDHP HSA is probably your best option. Lower cost with HSA option.
In SoCal I would recommend Blue Shield HDHP HSA
In NorCal, if you use the Stanford Healthcare system you may need to go with HealthNet's EPO option.

If you want to call "all the carriers" you can. There aren't very many. Or you can work with a broker who is familiar with all the plans available in your area. When you research the insurance options, be sure to review the healthcare providers to you.

I'd stay away from Anthem Blue Cross because they have dropped a lot of the providers for private insurance.
