After it had been falling for a few seconds, it falls 40.0 m in 1.00 s. What distance will it fall during the next 1.00s. Ignore air resistance.

I'm wondering if I use d = (V(i))(t) + 1/2(a)(t) where Vi = 40.0m/s. a= 10m/s since does is positive. and t= 1.00 s?

distance travelled is
s= vo t + 1/2 g t². Start with t=1
40 = v0 +9.8/2,
v0= 40-4.9= 35.1 m/s
s= 35.1*2 +1/2 g 2²= 70.2+19.6=89.8 m
