Why am I getting low fps on my gaming PC?

I built a gtx 970 4gb, i5 4460 overclocked to 3.8ghz, 16gb ddr3 1600, 1tb 7200rpm hdd and a 1280x1024 monitor and I m only getting about 160fps on cs go and gta 5 high settings (no msaa, not very high) runs at about 55.

The first thing I would check is my GPU load with MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z. If the game is maxing out your GPU, then that's what's limiting you. If your GPU load is low, then the game is probably waiting on the CPU.

The next thing I would do is watching the CPU load in Task Manager. Try turning the graphics down, if lower graphics settings make the CPU load go up, it was the GPU it was waiting on. If the CPU load stays the same with lower settings, then the game is waiting on your CPU.

Those are low framerates for such a wimpy screen resolution.

In GTA5 at the highest settings, with msaa off, you should get around 75-85fps.

Probably driver issues or another software issue. I would suggest deleting the old drivers then installing new drivers. If youre using a really old GTX 970 driver from late 2014 or what came with the installation CD, this might explain part of the issue.

It has nothing to do with Aliens or G-Sync. G-Sync monitors are $100 more than a monitor without it. Screen tearing is not your problem.

Have you installed the graphics accelerator software Windows 10 does not provide that software on some cards

Your rig is nice, but the i5 and HDD are potentially slowing you down. Plus, GTA V is terribly optimized and very difficult to run, so without an i7 and SSD you can almost always expect poor performance on high settings or above. See what happens with Skyrim or Fallout NV, if you get no problems on max settings, then you can safely assume the i5 and HDD are problematic for newer games.
