What is the best engine for high altitude racing?

I would think a Rotary or inline 4-6 would be top contenders for this spot, but I just don't know enough about engines yet to know the answer. I know basically any engine can be tuned to run somewhat well with lower air densities, but I would like to know what's the best engine for this little niche.

Any engine with forced induction or a very high compression ratio will do better up high.

And WHY should an inline 4 cylinder engine be better than a V-8? The ONLY difference between high altitude and sea level is that the air is thinner at altitude. You need to adjust the fuel/air mixture to work properly at a higher altitude. People who fly piston engine airplanes learn how to do this in one of their very first lessons.

Something with a turbo or supercharger. Engines with forced induction tend deal with higher altitudes more gracefully than N/A engines.

I would think it all depends on how its tuned, the number of cyl's shouldn't matter as much as HOW its set up for high altitudes.
