Is refracted light in the sky (IE: a rainbow) flat or cylindrical, or both or neither?

On earth's surface, we see only half a rainbow. If you fly high enough and see a rainbow, it is circular... because the sun is circular.
But what you perceive has no depth, so is essentially 2 dimensional. If you fly towards it, it will "move" at the same rate. You can never reach it.
There's no treasure at the end, either.
