Why are some artists way bigger than others on Soundcloud despite similar popularity?

For example, Kendrick Lamar ´has less than 400K followers on Soundcloud while Big Sean has close to 10 million. Even though Big Sean reallly isn't more popular or well known than Kendrick Lamar. Why is it then that some artists gain a much larger following than other artists?

Big Sean is very well known
The reason some people have more then others because the person either knows them or has more fans then others.
