(uk) why do companies REQUIRE a jib gold card?

What is the purpose of the jib gold card for companies? Do they get more money from the government if an electrician has a gold card or what? Health insurance cost?

Plenty of skilled electricians who are refused work simply because they do not have a gold card. Seems like a huge loss for companies/agencies looking for electricians

The JIB gold card is an assessment of speed of work as well as skills/competencies.
but i suspect the bottom line is :
It saves employers/contracting bodies the bother of having to get copies of other certifications/competencies to cover their nether regions..

If you as a sparky want the work, get the gold card (if you can pass AM(2)!)
