I am looking into getting a use Golf GTI and was wondering how long the engine should last me? The one in my area that I can afford is at 80,000, stock, and has a good maintenance history. I will also keep up good regular maintenance, won't be using the car for track days, and don't plan on modifying it except if I do not like the speaker system but that's about it.

Hi well your out of luck with a 2012 year car as VOLKSWAGEN design is simple it has to last only 7 years. so this one is on it's last year.

Used cars are a crap shoot. It will depend on how it was taken cared of and how it was driven by the previous owner/s. Test drive it and check for any hiccups. If it is an automatic, make sure the shifts are smooth and almost not noticeable. Check if the heater and AC are working. They are not cheap fixes. Check if the timing belt has been replaced if the car has a belt. Good luck.
