The latest desktop CPU that was released by Intel was the Core i7-8086k, which is part of the Coffee Lake series. The 8086k is a Special edition CPU that has higher clock speeds than the Core i7-8700k, other than that it's not a very good value.
Prior to that, Intel released their lower spec Socket 1151 Coffee Lake processors, with the initial release coming last October of 2017.

Here in a couple months Intel will release the 9th Generation Coffee Lake processors. In the first wave you will see:
Core i9-9900k which has 8 cores with Hyperthreading.
Core i7-9700k which has 8 cores without Hyperthreading
Core i5-9600k which is a suped-up Core i5-8600k

Rumor is Intel will release a refreshed line of processors for the Skylake-X Socket 2066 platform. These processors are supposed to have higher clock speeds. Another rumor has it that Intel will use Solder between the IHS and CPU, instead of using conventional Thermal Compound. With the conventional Thermal Compound, Intel really can't clock the Skylake-X processors any higher than what they are.

AMD released their Threadripper 2 processors a few weeks ago and earlier this year AMD released their Ryzen 2000 series processors. The Ryzen 3 2200g and Ryzen 5 2400g have Vega 11 Integrated Graphics but the architecture is the same as the Ryzen 1000 series. The Ryzen 2 processors like the Ryzen 7 2700x and Ryzen 5 2600x came out last Spring. If rumors are correct, AMD will release a Ryzen 7 2800x to counter the Core i9-9900k and Core i7-9700k. AMD is also expected to release a Ryzen 5 2500x and a Ryzen 3 2300x.
