I have a 2009 Chevy HHR. Rated for 900 lbs of carrying capacity. Is there any wiggle room in this, what are the dangers of going over this?

If a load is too heavy, the brakes and steering could fail.

Aside from that little set of details, you are golden!

Hi the wiggle is this the trailer could throw the car off the road at speed.

Be aware that the 900 lbs weight limit includes the weight of driver and passengers as well as cargo. Overloading the vehicle results in poor handling and poor braking and could be unsafe in an emergency situation.

it's your car now, so you can do whatever you want with it, but, then you'll have to also pay to have it fixed.............

Yes there is some wiggle room - the biggest danger is that your stopping distances start to increase as the weight is exceeded, so as long as you are aware of this and compensate (not unlike compensating for driving is slick conditions) - slower as you come to stop lights/signs maintain lower speeds in more populous locations you will be fine --- and if something happens due to overloading Chevy will not be responsible - only you.
