Question about Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri and the Messiah?

There is a claim that the late Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri identified the Messiah as being Jesus. (This claim is false, BTW.)

My question is mainly addressed to those who believe that the claim is actually true.

- Before hearing about this claim, did you ever hear about Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri?
- Why do you believe it? More to the point, why did you not approach it with a high degree of skepticism?
- What purpose does such a belief serve?

To answer my own question:

It is my view that no one who believes this claim had ever heard of Rabbi Kaduri before hearing about this claim.

The reality is that the statistical probability of ANY rabbi converting to Christianity is very low and for a rabbi such as Rabbi Kaduri, it approaches nil. Thus, it is odd that many people seem to believe it.
It would be the equivalent of hearing a rumour that Pope John Paul II had converted to Judaism (secretly) in the 1980s. If I heard such a rumour, I wouldn't believe it until there was good evidence showing it to be true.

Moreover, believing this claim serves no purpose. The faith of Christians does not rise or fall whether this claim about Rabbi Kaduri is true or not.
