No. You can only be claimed on one return.

You can still file, depending on what you made, you may get everything back anyway.

You CAN and SHOULD file your own tax return. You MIGHT get at least part (maybe all) of any amount listed in box 2 of your W-2 form.

You just need to mark that someone else is claiming you as a dependent.

Because of your age, your mother can claim you as a dependent, but next year, being claimed as a dependent will depend on a few other things like student status or income level because you will be 19.

If they withheld taxes from your pay and you are due a refund, you have to file your own return. As long as your mother is providing more than half your room/board/other expenses she can also claim you as a dependent.

You can still file a tax return. If you earned less than $12,000 then you will get back any tax you have paid.

For claiming you as a dependent, your mom gets a small credit (up to $500) and might be able to file as "head of household" for lower tax rates. Furthermore, she might be able to get a tax credit for paying your college tuition.

As of 2018 there is no major disadvantage to being claimed as a dependent. You cannot take that tuition credit yourself, and it can sometimes affect how your investment income is taxed.

If you are living with you mom - you need to let her claim you as a dependent. She will get a huge credit. It would be selfish of you not to let her, because I you take it, you only get a few dollars.

You should file for yourself - just be sure to check the box that says you can be claimed on someone else taxes. And don't claim yourself.
