Menstruating for 8 days? Is this normal?

I m 17 years old. I ve been on Depo Provera (birth control shot) for 2 months, and before that I was on the combined birth control pill for 3 months. I barely had my period at all, and maybe would bleed very lightly one day a month.
8 days ago, I began my period and it just hasn t stopped.
Before I even started birth control I normally had 5 day long periods.
Is this normal? Please help!

8 days is on the long side for a normal period, but not abnormal or a sign of a problem.  As long as you are not bleeding heavily the whole time, not a concern. 
(It's common for periods to be light on birth control pills.    And depo can cause bleeding patterns to change.)
