Many phone cameras already have good quality, especially since you do not seem like a professional photographer. I would maybe go into bestbuy or somewhere and take pictures of items and look at the quality of different cameras.

The best camera for anything is the one you can afford and more importantly, know how to use. There's no point recommending a dSLR to someone who doesn't know the basic principles of photography unless that someone has plenty of money to spare and is willing to take the chance of getting lucky.

As far as picture quality is concerned, it depends highly on the skill of the photographer and not the camera used. If you don't know what you're doing, you can, again, always try to get lucky.

Here's one tip to increase your chances. Mind the light.

"Best" for me might not be for you. I lug around a DSLR with one or two lenses, perhaps three lenses and a tripod. If you don't mind lugging around a substantial camera, then look to Canon, Nikon, Pentax, or Sony for either DSLR or mirrorless cameras.

If you want something pocket sized, then I'll recommend a 1" sensor camera. Canon, Lumix, and Sony have 1" sensor cameras that have pretty good technical performance and allow full manual control of exposure with decent ergonomics. The original Sony RX100 can be had for under $400. When I don't want to lug around my DSLR, I'll take the RX100 which fits in my pocket.

As others have stated, having a good camera ensures that you can get good technical results if you know how to operate said tool. Having a good camera doesn't mean you'll get good shots. Getting good shots is something that the photographer does with understanding of composition, lighting, styling, and understanding some technical details. It takes time and a concerted effort to learn all these things.

If you don't know how to take good photos correctly then any camera will do just fine for you. There is more to good photos than just snapping a pictures and by your question you don't know how. Anyone can just take snapshots with any camera.
