We all have had top freezer and bottom fridges before. And considering way back when they designed them I'm sure teams of people and consumer influence pointed to the top freezer bottom fridge concept. So why is that being challenged now with your bottom pull out freezers, which I find very awkward to use. What's your opinion on this? Do you prefer the old fashion large frozen pizza fitting top freezer concept, the side by side everything easy to get to concept, or the pull out compartmentalised bottom freezer concept?

I prefer the old school, freezer on top type just due to efficiency and room available. You can't fit a large pizza or anything large in the new types very well. We have had a freezer (pull out basket type) on the bottom, which had not much room, and currently have a side by side, which still does not have the freezer room I would like. Take a tape measure with you if you go shopping for a fridge, and measure to make sure it will fit in what you need. Measure a large pizza box before you go, and good luck!
There are so many different types of refrigerators on the market that it is dizzying. Freezer up, fridge down Fridge up, freezer down Freezer drawers with wire baskets Freezer drawers made from solid plastic Water/Ice on the door Water dispenser on the inside fridge Side by Side doors French Doors, freezer on the bottom Refrigerators with special access to drawers Refrigerators with a door inside the door Glass front refrigerators Refrigerators with cameras so you can see what you need while at the grocery store on your phone. Computer screens on the fridge door Blah, blah, blah. It will make your head spin. And, so will some of the prices.
I did my research for two years before buying the best fridge for my lifestyle and cooking habits. Not everyone needs the same fridge, so good thing there are a dozen options.
My preference is to have the freezer on the bottom with a French door refrigerator. To me, the freezer is just a frozen storage drawer that I do not use but a few times a week. But having the fridge on top is great because everything is within easy reach. Everything. The doors have deep shelving for all the bottled goods. The led lights are like my food is on stage, so I can see everything. The pull out shelves are fantastic. Some even have a feature to slide half back for taller items, like a bottle of wine. The feature to have an interior drawer located at the bottom of the fridge was not all that important to me, but as it turns out, I love it because all of my cheeses, platters of food and shallow items are easily accessible. The plus side of the shallow drawer is that you can set it at a different temp than the fridge, which is great for meats to keep fresh or a slightly lower temp for defrosting. The fruit/veggie drawers are full size and box shaped, with tons of room, opposed to the ones that have a slanted back to the drawers, decreasing space.
The freezer drawer is not a wire rack type, it is a plastic drawer with a sliding top shelf. Perfect for everything and it has so much space. The ice maker is internal so I cannot even see it. I love the feature of having filtered water dispenser inside the fridge because the mess water and ice make when it is on the external drawer drives me nuts, especially if you have stainless steel, which should be called stained steel because every single smudge makes a stain, which is a pain to clean (especially if you have kids or a dog).
I have a Samsung Refrigerator and cannot say enough good things about it.
For me, it is freezer on the bottom, French doors on the top. I like the French doors because when open, there is more floor space for someone to pass behind me. And, I put frequently used items on one side as not to open the whole fridge, saving energy. I use the water dispenser and fill a pitcher of water daily and keep it right there in the fridge.
My parents had one in the 50s=60s.. loved. So in the 80s I bought one with freezer on bottom. Makes sense because you use the fridge more than the freezer. Just easier.
Considering that cold air is denser than warmer air, every time you open the verticle door on a refrigerator freezer like the kind you described the cold air "falls" out of the freezer compartment. A drawer on the bottom does not do that at all. The effects are minimal on the energy consumption of the refrigerator as a whole. It seems like a very smart idea that should have become much more common years ago, in my opinion.
