How should I go about this?

So I just got a new job, and the minimum wage in NJ as of July 1st is $10 an hour. My boss was calculating my pay right in front of me in which he is paying me the old $8.85 an hour minimum wage and i am supposed to be getting $10. How should I go about asking about it?

Its best just to politely tell him something appears to be wrong with your paycheck. Then point out your hourly rate is still listed as the old minimum wage, rather than the new one. Its best to avoid using accusatory terms such as, "you made a mistake on my check."

I will reinforce that it is best to approach the issue as asking for clarification instead of as an accusation.

Remind him that minimum wage is now $10 an hour and ask, POLITELY, why he is paying you less. There may be a legitimate reason. (Training, for example).
If you don't like the answer find a new job.

Why didn't you open your mouth right then and there? You go to their office or HR and you simply ask. No damn text messages or emails either it shows you have no spine.

ADDED before going to anyone else go to the employer FIRST then you can seek other remedies but remember that job may go away in a big hurry.
