Is this true about getting your oil changed ?

I have a car that’s more than 10 years old. I was told by a friend of mine that it’s best to not get an oil change at a popular car place because they use old oil to change your car oil. For years I would buy my own oil from the store and take it to a mechanic to change it for me. But it just seems easier to take it to a shop like pep boys to get it changed.

That is a total false hood, the Attorney Generals Office would close them down if they did that fraud.  Also you can watch then fill your car. That is just plain stupid!

I no longer take my LS engines to the jerk 'n lube, if I'm going to pay $10 for a filter it better be WIX quality.
It makes no sense to get pricey synthetic oil if the crappy paper oil filter is never going to last 5K+ miles.

The days of the $19.95 oil change are a thing of the past, basic oil and filter with chassis lube is now $45+.
My LS takes 7 quarts of MB1 oil and a $10 WIX oil filter, $95 at the shop or less then $45 so I do it myself.

The kids working at these shops are notorious for stripping out the threads on aluminum oil pans, beware.
Or pump too much grease in your ball joints and pop the seal boots off, I don't trust the jerk 'n lube shack.

You're getting factory-fresh oil. If recycled oil was even available they would be bragging about it and offering it as an option.

Years ago you used to be able to buy cleaned, recycled oil at gas stations.  It was unbranded, sold in a reusable glass bottle with a spout on the top.  This was a time when oil wasn't as good, even new oil, and cars rarely passed 100,000 miles.

Today oil-change places always advertise brand-name oil.  Penzoil or Quaker State or Valvoline, or the most well-known ( i.e. highly advertised, i.e. most expensive) synthetic oil, Mobil 1.  There is no market for recycled oil for cars.  You can't even buy it!  It's used now to make blacktop for paving.

you don't supply your own oil to the mechanic they will charge you extra to put it in.Ive never heard of 2nd hand oil being put in cars if a place is going to do that they'd change the filter and just top it up.
