Bad transaxle on a car.?

Hi I wanted to know if your transaxle is bad on your car. How much does it cost to replace this an estimate. And also doesn't mean the whole transmission needs to be replaced. Thanks

Sorry I meant. Does this mean that the whole transmission needs to be replaced? Or is the transaxle apart that can be replaced by itself? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The front wheel drive transmission is a transaxle, and if it's bad, it's bad. Whatever the fault is, unless the case is destroyed, you might be able to repair it. First, find out what the problem is. OBD2 trouble codes can point that out. If you have to replace the unit, there are prices you can look up; used, rebuilt and new. There is not "one size fits all" price for labor fitting all models.

The Transaxle is the whole transmission on a front wheel drive car. This word means transmission and differential (that you have in a rear wheel drive car) is all one assembly. Hard to say buy I'd not blink at an estimate of $2,000++ parts and labor. Better to buy a remanufactured transmission with a warranty than have the grease monkeys try to rebuild your old tranny.

The transaxle is the "transmission" on vehicles with front wheel drive.  Transmission replacement is not cheap.  If your car is old, it might not be worth fixing.

Does this 'car' have a make/model?

The only way to find out is to take it to some shops and get quotes.

The transaxle on my car is fine so it doesn't need to be removed. And since I drive a front wheel drive car the transaxle is the transmission - they are the same thing because it is an integral part of the front axle, hence: trans-axle. Many people call the transaxle a transmission and also refer to the transmission as the transaxle, they are the same thing on cars where the drive axles come directly out of the transmission. Old VW bugs had rear wheel drive but also had transaxles.
Removing and replacing an average transmission/transaxle is a big job and may take a whole day to do, rebuilding it would add more time to that.
