Do you need a prescription in Mexico?

I hear you dont need a prescription in Mexico for codeine and painkillers. Is this true?

The only good pain killer you can get over the counter would be Tramadol, a mix of codeine and Tylenol. I use it for back pain occasionally and was able to get it in Cancun. If you get caught trying to bring it home with you, expect problems.

Codeine is sold over the counter (no prescription needed) in most of the world.
