Wifi only goes up to 200ft at the absolute maximum, and that's with the highest state of the art technology. If you were able to pick up any wifi signal within 5 miles, wouldn't it make sense to you that when you search for a network on a device, there would be thousands upon thousands to choose from??? You are going to have to set up a remote network through the internet, and if you don't have the proper data service and hardware, you won't have online access on the laptop.

A typical home Wi-Fi network is not meant to be used at those great lengths. If you really want, you can setup a point to point antenna setup using something like Ubiquiti airFiber equipment.
