When I was young, my family went to a tourist attraction in southern New Hampshire called "Mystery Hill". It was the remains of a pre Pilgrims village that was supposedly Scandinavian in origin and attributed to the possibility that Vikings were here first. It even had a sacrificial table that had blood stains imbedded in it.
