Would you know if you had a bug in your ear?

I’m a little bit of a hypochondriac. I have a wax issue sometimes, my ear canals are not very wide so it builds up sometimes and I need to do the old peroxide and water bit occasionally. Recently, I can hear less good in my right ear and it occasionally feels like something is moving in there. I feel like if I went to my doctor, he’d just dismiss it and I would feel awful silly if he looks in there and there’s nothing there. Would you know for certain if you had a bug in your ear just by feeling it?

You would most likely know if there was any foreign object in your ear. Especially if it was an insect, you would hear and feel it moving around and/or struggling to find it's way back out. If an insect got in there and for some reason died almost immediately and it's in there you would most likely experience some degree of discomfort as well as sounds being sort of muffled because the ear canal is blocked. That does make sense, it can happen. Most of the time we can feel any foreign object that's in our ears. It's an annoying discomfort we get determined to remove.

There is a plethora of other things that can cause a sensation of hearing loss and they are only temporary. Some of them include being ill with a sinus infection or head cold, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes - sugar or glucose levels. It can also be due to a change in the climate you're in as well as the density and humidity of your environment. Our ears play a part in being able to balance ourselves properly. Usually when a person has some sort of hearing issue or ear infection they might also notice they might not be as well balanced as they usually are. They'll trip over things or stumble for little to no reason now and then. They just won't feel right but they usually have the idea those things might have to do with the discomfort their feeling in the area of one or both sides of their head.

If you use fluid to clean your ears out, any fluid, maybe you didn't get it all out. It could be due to lint or hair or something like that making it's way in there and getting trapped in ear wax causing a bit of a clog. Clean them out really well and do your best to insure you get all of the fluid out. Having someone clean our ears (with fluid is safest instead of letting someone else dig in there with something) is best because it's not possible for us to see in our own ears. Even if we try using multiple mirrors it's quite difficult to position them right, and hold the mirrors there, so we can see in. Aiming to get something out of our ears is another tricky task that's difficult to do if we somehow manage to get mirrors right so we can see.

Ask a loved one to help you see if there's something in there and ask for help cleaning them thoroughly. Then give it at least 3 days to see if your hearing returns to normal. As I said it could be any number of things and it could only be temporary. If it doesn't return to normal in a few days see a doctor. Insist that they take it seriously and have a look. It's a doctors job, it's what we pay them for, to evaluate and figure out any and all of our health concerns. Don't be embarrassed going to and asking your doctor - however - due to what's going on at the moment making a special appointment for this or going to the ER might not be the best idea. No offense. I hope you can agree that with things that are going on right now doctors and hospital staff have more important things to to do than clean someone's ears for them. If you go to a doctor or a hospital for this issue alone you're likely to spend a lot of time in the waiting room.

Give it a few days and see if it corrects it self.

You won't know without someone looking.
