Is this idea copyright infringement or not?

Question

I’d like to make an educational channel on Youtube (or another platform) about religion. I’m planning to discuss and/or quote verbatim from printed sources such as books and research articles.

Will the fact that I’ll be quoting from or using parts of printed/copyrighted material be considered infringement?
If yes, how to not do that? Would I need to pay royalties to the publishers?
Would it make a difference whether my channel is monetized or not (I hope it will be)?

While education is one of the Fair Use exceptions to copyright protection, an educational video on Youtube probably doesn't qualify for that exception. The law as applied most likely limits such Fair Use to educational institutions.

If you monetize it, it's definitely not Fair Use.

You need to fully cite your sources during the presentation. You cannot give the impression that what you are presenting is your work.

Educational purposes is an exemption to copyright.  As long as you cite your sources you're fine.
