Coefficient of thermal expansion for steel is about twice as for wood (according to tables).
It should be noted that wood is difficult materijal to compare. It's anisotropic meaning iz has different properties in different directions. Besides that, properties of wood depend on percent of moisture, density of fibers and species of tree.
