I disagree with the favorite answer. I'm someone who is extremely oblivious due to medical stuff and as a result, I genuinely don't know when people are attracted to me. I had an ex who flirted with me for an entire year before we dated, and I just didn't know. The only times that I can tell when people are into me is when they're disgustingly sexual, and even then I usually only run because it makes me uncomfortable and not because I understand that they're attracted to me.
I also have problems being attracted to people due to the trauma of being treated like a monster for being gay in high school. As a result, I psychologically repress attraction that I feel and do not recognize it.
As a result, it is entirely feasible for this to happen for two people. This especially happens in the gay community, where acknowledging your attraction for someone can still result in getting beaten up or worse. It's better to convince yourself that it doesn't exist.
