Virus Increases - do Brits and Americans have less self-discipline than other nationalities?

People are having difficulty giving up their freedom and way of life for a while, instead they are allowing a deadly virus to propagate. We have exactly the same problem with climate control. This is decadence, is it not? We are acting like spoiled kids. This is why we have Donald Trump and Boris Johnson, because we prefer empty promises to facing reality.

I don't think we do. The problems are in UK we seem to have pockets of society who don't think rules apply to them. They simply don't care about others and the risk they are putting others at. Where i live the majority of people are still following the rules . Of course the media don't report that .  If we do get hit by a second wave of this terrible virus it won't be the government fault but all these idiots ignore the rules

One reason the Governments delayed introducing lockdown was because they knew it could not be sustained. Why people feel entitled to abdicate all responsibility for their own behaviour is a mystery, but that is the reality that politicians have to deal with. Provided the hospitalisation rate is managed we are on the way to the so-called herd immunity, so we should be grateful for what might be called cannon fodder in less enlightened times.

Theirs is a special blend of hypocritical free market capitalism, hidden behind a fig leaf of democracy and supposed freedom to do what you like. Yes, its decadence when the liberties are allowed to move one step too far and start to undermine social cohesion.  Religion used to provided a firm foundation for acceptable standards of behaviour, but that too has become corrupt along with those in political power. Revolution and a reactionary reign of terror are now inevitable. This is why corruption in public office should NEVER be tolerated.

Discipline began to break down in England when Boris Johnson condoned the behaviour of his chief advisor Dominic Cummings who made a long car journey to see his parents, and a shorter journey to a visitor attraction, but claimed he had been in London quite ill with COVID-19 until he was rumbled by a newspaper. The situation is different in Scotland where First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been considerably more skillful in explaining the reasons for and importance of the measures adopted by the Scottish Government to keep the people onside.
