Was it named Sandusky, Ohio, because the sand looked nice in the evening?

Wouldn't that make it "Sanddusky"? Since it's "Sandusky," wouldn't that suggest that Dusky is a Saint, like it does in the name Santiago? But in reality, we both know Sandusky is named for someone whose last name was Sandusky, just like Sandusky, Michigan was.

Being a Brit, I've never heard of the place so I'll have to use a bit of logic,
Huskey, a dog used for pulling sledges over icy terrain,
Sandusky, a dog used for pulling sledges in the desert????
