Never heard of z wave until this post. It appears to be a proprietary wireless technology that is magnitudes slower than Wi-Fi. Not clear to me what the benefits to z-wave (proprietary with limited vendor support) are over Wi-Fi (industry standard supported by 1000s of devices)?

The devices will use bandwidth, so in theory things could slow down if you had enough of them, but it's unlikely your lightbulbs will be downloading gigabytes of data a day, so the actual effect will be negligible.
