Is stating facts about a person's situation defending them or just simply pointing out truth?
If there's someone that is accused of something and I reply saying something that is factual, does this automatically imply I'm defending them?

I don't know why it matters. If it's the truth you can't be sued for defamation.
Other than that, your choice.
