Can I use my municipal NYC id to visit a state prison?

NY state prisons began allowing visitors last week, although there are limitations and restrictions.  Assuming you are allowed to visit the prisoner you want to see, your NYC municipal ID should be sufficient - it is considered government-issued photo ID.

No, you can not jut walk into a prison.There are security issues.There are safety issues .No way.

Can you visit AT ALL???  The guy across the street is a CO at a max security prison here in NYS, and he says "nobody in - nobody out".  Even prison transfers - moving felons form one prison to another - is very closely monitored.  So call first - see what is up with the facility you have in mind.
