Will windows 7 hold back newer hardware?

It tells me my cpu is not supported on windows 7. It makes me wonder. Windows 7 is pretty old. It’s the only one I’ve ever really used and I’m not a big fan of change, but is it holding back my computer?

The reason is because Windows 7's driver set is older than the CPU so Windows 7 has no idea what it is. Hopefully W10 will eventually allow all of the unnecessary overhead and extras to be removed so that you don't have gigabytes worth of operating system wasting space on your disk. I predict that eventually W10 will be more like the 7 / XP Sp3 / 98se rather than a facelifted W8 as to Vista / ME
