Is my Tortoise Male or Female?

When we bought our tortoise they said he was male, however, lots of family debate has gone on in comparing the bottom shell to online pictures suggesting our tortoise is a female. Any pro animal experts out there able to tell by this picture to add to our debate?

It is probably a female because there is no projection at the front of the plastron that males used to fight each other. The tail appears to be too short and the plastron is not concave. Males have concave plastron so when they mount a female, they won't slip off so easily. It is good to have a female. Now if you can find a male, you may get some eggs and then babies.
