Guy knocked on my house asking for his mail? What should I do?

Hi. I moved to nassau county. South valley stream. Long story short, not long after we moved in (maybe a week) someone came asking for their mail. My husband and I said we didn't have it because really it's none of our business and it shouldn't be comint here anyway. He told my husband he lived down the block and that he accidently put it this address (sounds like a bs story) anyway, he came again I believe yesterday and asked for it. What would u do at this point? I want someone advice because I don't feel safe now. Would you answer the door if he came again?

I rarely open my door for anyone anymore. Especially if I am home alone.

Have your husband tell him you always give mail not addressed to you back to the postal worker. He doesn’t need to check with you again because you won’t have his mail. And that he needs to correct his mistake and give his correct address to everyone that has his old address. He can contact them and the post office to rectify this.

Have you actually got any mail with this guys name on it?  You can take it back to the post office Or postal carrier and explain the situation.  Your postal carrier would know if he lived on your street.  Are you 100% sure this guy live down you street?  If you have no clue this guy lives by you, I would call the non emergency Police number and report his actions. Tell them he has done this twice and you don’t feel he is legit.
He could be doing this with others in the neighborhood.
If you, for any reason, don’t feel comfortable having your husband answer the door for him , both of you ignore him.

We have a front door and a very good storm door.  I always have the storm door locked. I have open my door to a guy and TWICE I have had the guy try to open my storm door on me. I did not invite either of them in, they just pulled on the handle.  They can hear me just fine though the storm door. I have stop answering the door. And we live in an extremely low crime area. They probably  didn’t mean a thing by it, but I don’t take the chance anymore.
Do not open the door to him
Report it to your mail carrier.
Think about reporting to the police.

What should you do?  Common sense would tell you to give it back.  In the future, write "return to sender" on the mail and send it back.  You could also hand the mail to your postal carrier so it can be sent to the right address or take it to your local postal office.

If you get his mail write "wrong address" on the envelope and leave it for the mail carrier to pick up.  If he comes again tell him you sent it back.  Don't open the door.
