Hire right screening, will they say my credit score? ?

I owed money to Littlewoods and am currently paying it off (I’ll be honest I moved house and completely forgot about it like a dope). They sent me 2 interim letters and I have regularly paid them ever since

Today the company I have worked for have sent an email advising there will be a screening of me by Hireright. Will the 2 letters from the debt Collector effect this? I’m terrified of losing my job

Thank you for any advice and sorry if it’s a silly question

They cannot check your credit record via a credit check without your permission.

The only reason they would ever have to check that would be if you’re in a position where you handle lots of cash and other valuable items. Someone with dreadful credit and lots of unpaid debts could be tempted to steal.

So even if you are asked for permission to carry out a credit check, what you have typed indicates no problem. You have a debt, you’re up to date and paying it back, and the only hiccup is some missed payments in the past.

In reality, those companies only check your references, and the claims made on your CV unless there is a very good reason to dig further. A few honest minor discrepancies on your CV are also not usually a problem. But things like claiming to have qualifications you totally lack or jobs you never had will be a problem.
