1st of all, it's not the USA. It's just the cuckroaches in the USA. The Majority if US citizens don't call it that or ANY variation there of and find such designations an embarrassment. It's like that stupid poly-substance abusing relative who won't shut up and drop dead where nobody will find him/her until well after it's too late.
Unfortunately, no. They will never stop calling it that, because doing so will mean they will have to admit ti being wrong. It will also mean they're one step closer to admitting they're in the state they are in due to their own short comings. Just like any other junky, everyone else must suffer for their failures.

To answer the question: probably not. The spanish flu is still called Spanish flu, regardless of the evidence that it started in Kansas

I haven't seen or heard of this, but understand the euro-version is a mutation of higher severity.
