It might be wheel bearings! My guess is that you are wrong.
As for how long, that (please forgive me) depends on how stubborn you are.
If for one don't like the idea of an axle freezing up while I am going down the road or worse yet the wheel just coming off.

If you drive slow, you can drive until the tires wear out. A truck driven on the farm would be no problem.
