What are some good sleep aids?

So I just turned 25 and I've been taking Aleve PM for about two years now every other night. I've got serious back and neck pain from past events and it helps me sleep better and brings my pain level down throughout the day. Although my friend was telling me that it could give me health problems down the road, like Alzheimer's disease, cancer, and what ever else it may cause, I'd really rather not have anything to do with that, unless it's too late that is. Is there any other sleep aids that may help that won't mess me up down the road. Could I take melatonin instead? I can live with the pain but if Aleve pm is gonna kill me I could live without it instead.

I don't know much of the technique of psycotherapist and hypnotherapist but whenever I can't sleep, I will count one-two repetitively. with every inhale I count 1 and with every exhale I count 2 and do it recursively. You can't actaually believe me but I fall asleep after 4-6 minutes by this technique.
Also, self hypnosis will also be a greater tool. For this close your eyes and suggest yourself "my whole body is relaxed" think of every body part and continue again by suggesting "my toes are relaxed..." and reach to head. During the self suggestion concentrate on sleeping as well ," I am feeling asleep, I am feeling drowsy..." feelings and words that will make you feel like asleep.
This is not an elaborated answer but if you want please google "self hypnosid for sleeping". There are abundant of resources.
