Window heat pump seems to be in backup/auxiliary heat mode?
I have a window heat pump to heat my apartment. It seems to be working just fine except for one thing. I have noticed that sometimes when I used it in heat mode, the compressor comes on, but other times (mostly) it does not come on. Since I am new to heat pumps, bare with me. I have watt meter, and when I checked the energy usage, it says its using about 1400 watts. Thats about how much it is supposed to use when it is using auxiliary heat mode, or the backup to the normal heat pump function. In the heat pump function, its supposed to use about 760 watts. I am assuming that when the compressor comes on when in heat mode, that means its actually functioning as a heat pump and not as a heater. But again, it hasnt came on in a while and its been in auxiliary heat mode for a long time now. Is that because its below freezing outside? I have heard that they will do that when it gets down to a certain temperature. But my Frigidaire window heat pump didnt say at what temperature the heat pump would stop working and the aux heat would kick in. Is there any way to override the aux heat mode? Model number is FFRH0822R1E1 if that means anything. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
