What is an alternative to the boxing "rounds" training method? (Please see details)?
Years ago, I took boxing lessons. At the end of each lesson, I was told to perform "rounds". That meant- 2 minutes at 75% speed, one minute jumping rope as hard and fast as I could, then one minute standing still. (There was a yellow, green, and red, timer). This was to condition the body for a boxing match (The last minute of each round is very important). I started my way at 3 rounds, eventually worked my way up to 5 rounds. (Then the boxing gym shut down).
Anyway, I haven't done such rounds in years. I tried it at home today. The first two minutes of each round went fine. Yet, in the rapid speed minute (of each round), my heart was moving weirdly, and stressing like crazy. I wasn't tired. I tried 3 rounds. I could take the pain (like in the boxing gyms). Yet, my heart was going nuts. I am going to schedule a heart doctor's appointment.
However, this training method was amazing for fitness. Do you think I should go 3 minutes in a row at 80%, then rest for a minute, then repeat? My father suggested doing that. And do it for a longer number of 'rounds'. Yet, I'm nervous it won't have the same results as doing the all-out minute of jumps.
What do you think I should do?
Any information is greatly appreciated. Please no rude or sarcastic answers.
Thank you. Peace and blessings
