I have occasional business in downtown Portland. The look and feel are very different from normal. Most businesses are closed—which is even more dead than in the suburbs. Usually it is the other way around. Because of the riots/looting/vandalism/etc. most display windows and entrances are boarded up. The federal buildings have war-zone-like barriers around them on the sidewalks. One big advantage is that on-street parking is wide open for a change. I can park within a few doors of my destination—something I don't remember being able to do since the 1970s. I haven't seen any protesters, or even any gatherings of people since last summer.
