When is a beat that you create from a DAW is actually your beat?

My kids make beats. They go online and use services like Sound Trap find loops and samples and simple ARRANGE THEM and then call that beat making. It seems as if they are not truly creating music, just selecting sounds and putting them together, then claiming that as beat making. Is that legal? or is there more that needs to be done for a beat to truly belong to someone? I own DAWs like FL Studio and Logic Pro X. I would like to make my own beats and I would like my kids to make a sell those. But I am unsure when a beat can truly be owned. I hope I am explaining my concern correctly.
