Is no-show Uber drivers a common thing?

I've been in a few situations when a bunch of us need a ride (in various directions). And the hip kids who use Uber of Lyft are there waiting 30% longer up-to no-shows, than those using a traditional cab company.

Is the fundamental design error of community transport companies the fact they do indeed, in fact hire any random schmo off the streets/internet? ...who meets basic requirements...?

I've tried Uber once, I will never use them again they're too unreliable. I would rather use a taxi company that I know is going to show up.

I've had Uber drivers cancel because they were hoping for a longer journey to make more profit. I've also had a booked local driver not Uber once never show up. Waited 30 minutes then used Uber instead.

I don’t use Uber very often, but I’ve had much better luck with Uber than a regular cab company. Uber is cheaper and faster for the most part.
