No, it's not but it's much safer than it used to be years ago. Smaller cities tend to be the safest. Hoewever, New York is #13 of large metropolitan areas with over 200,000 people.

It's updated all the time, but if you're white, it's probably safer.

It lists at number 59 in 2020. I can not find current figures. So while it is not the safest city, it is not the worst either.
Irvine California is was considered the safest. While there were cities on the list lower in crime rates, the figures were not based on the same criterion (making exact comparison impossible).
St. Louis was the safest.

Most people are gone now..moving out to the suburbs, other states, etc.
