Have you ever pulled back from talking with someone because you were starting to fall in love with them and you didn’t want too?

Yes. But thats just about going slow so you dont scare them off, right? Go ahead and love her, Gary! Just dont tell her of it or act needy, you'd lose her. Instead, be cool & aloof. And manipulate her a little, so she can become interested in you (example: leave your hair a little messy. If it's perfect we dont like that anyway, and she'll want to fix it! She'll brush that unruly hair back with her hand for you. See? You tricked her into touching and bonding a little, physically. Thats a start! :D And if ultimately she doesnt love you back, hey, it'll suck, but loneliness does anyway, so what you got to lose! Might as well feel a loving urge for a while. And maybe she will think youre great. Maybe she will love you. Why not? You're a good deserving guy, right? (You must tell yourself that! and pump up your ego a bit, and be a little brash & insensitive, dont fawn over her every little need & wish (you'd blow it that way). The secret is: we SAY we want a sensitive doting guy, but it isnt what attracts us on a primitive level, and thats where you gotta appeal to. We get turned on by insenstive jerks (so long as theyre physically appealing). We think we can fix them! :D
So identify her interests, know of them, be able to potentially share in them. But dont be needy! Dont cling. Dont claim. Dont be obvious. Make like you dont even want it. ..It'll come to you!

Yes, but I think at my age it might not have been love...🌺

No. That's just odd behaviour.
