What song would you suggest where the backing vocalist/s made the difference in a song?
Talented back-up singers have made an amazing contribution to some songs that would not be the same without them. To my mind this feature seems to have ended with most singers now doing their own back-up fills.
Lay your take on me and i'll give 'em a spin! It doesn't have to an award winning performance, just something that stands out to you. As always your personal touch appreciated.
Man oh man Livin', you got my head spinnin' on this ? Jackie Hicks, Marlene Barrow, and Louvain Demps, AKA The Andantes backed up so many Motown songs I could list an entire catalog of them. So take your pick. The Four Tops - Ask The Lonely, Bernadette, etc... etc... etc..., Marvin Gaye - Ain't That Peculiar, Martha and The Vandellas (with NO Vandellas) - My Baby Loves Me and on non Motown, backed Jackie Wilson's Higher and Higher. Just a few examples of a couple of hundred songs. The Andantes were "Solid Gold".~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`OK Livin'... Brenda Holloway - When I'm Gone, This absolutely beautiful Last One Out Is Brokenhearted by The Temptations: with Paul Williams on lead who IMO was the Soul of the Temps.Andantes soaring octaves. Man.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk9xnsVygZQ , Ruffin hadn't even joined yet when this one was recorded. Berry Gordy shelved it... until 1999. the bastard. Stevie Wonder - Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day, Mary Wells - My Guy, Edwin Starr -Stop Her on Sight (S.O.S ) ... And this one by The Andantes. Like a Nightmare. Who Berry wouldn't allow them to record many in the Top Spotlight to keep them as background singers. But We Knew Who They Were!!! So Enjoy, again on so many I cannot list them all.
